Malawi President Cautions Ministers Over corruption
The President of Malawi has cautioned his ministers against acts of corruption.
President Lazarus Chakwera served the warning on Sunday, January 30, 2022 after swearing in a new cabinet.
He had earlier dissolved his entire cabinet over alleged corruption.
He told members of the new cabinet that he would not protect anyone from prosecution if they got involved in corrupt activities.
According to him, “Do not accept a gift in exchange for using your office to give someone preferential treatment in the administration of a public service. That is corruption.”
There have been anti-government protests since November to condemn the rising cost of living and allegations of nepotism and corruption.
